a couple of fridays ago
the children in our
Plants and Pillars co-op
performed their musical
under the direction
of my one-time elementary teacher
Mrs. Sue Cline
we practiced
and practiced
for months
painted backdrops
crafted costumes
created a powerpoint presentation
memorized lines
and songs
when finally
the big night arrived
nerves crackled backstage
minutes before curtain call
(rabbit ears never get old, right?)
but nerves in theatre
are a good thing
because when it came time
to do their stuff
they were amazing
and afterward
they could finally relax
and shake all the silliness out
enjoy a job well done
and generally
pat themselves on the back
i won't lie
it was a huge labor of love
and it's good to have it in our rear view mirror
but what a wonderful experience
for our kids
