when we first bought our 1880 victorian
i had dreams of finding long hidden treasures
up in the attic
or down in the bowels of the house
no such luck
if ever there was anything to find
it would seem that previous dwellers had been the fortunate ones
until today
when i was rummaging in the aforementioned bowels
for something i've clean forgotten now
and unearthed these little gems
reposing in a dusty old box
defective?
forgotten
lost?
who cares?
they are now reposing in an old wooden bowl in my nook
(isn't 'nook' a perfect word?)
this was actually my second treasure find
about a week ago i was rootling through some boxes of silverware
that had been handed down to me
and happened across something truly lovely
sterling silver spoons and serving pieces
some are even monogrammed
with the name 'meg'
so sweet and pretty
wouldn't you love to know who meg was?
were the spoons a wedding gift?
did she enjoy shining up those precious pieces too?
did she feed her babies from that cutlery?
i wonder
of course
i hunted out my own silver cream
and got right to work
i don't know why polishing silver is so
satisfying
but it is
now those spoons reside in a little ironstone creamer
on my dining room mantle
what once was lost is now found
