Ordinary Days

A couple of weeks ago the hubs had a day off from work, so we decided to take a field trip day and go to a local historic landmark.

After breakfast, we hurried through our morning chores and packed up a picnic lunch.

McConnell's Mill State Park combines a wonderful hiking trail with a restored Mill that originated in the 1800s. The hike is beautiful and just tiring enough for two parents and four younguns.

The trail runs along Slippery Rock Creek

which is fun the throw rocks in.

Here's Big

and Sy

Dad watching over the rock climbers.

This was a cool animal hole into a tree trunk.

We tried to get a shot of how deep this little den must be.

The Mill itself is a lovely building.

Here are some inside shots.

I don't know what everything was used for, but this is a grinding wheel.

You can see the limestone walls and window ledge.

Toot.

This covered bridge is one of only two still used in Lawrence County.

I love the criss-crossing beams inside.

Everywhere we looked we saw reminders of the Father's creativity,

even in the smallest details.

We talked about how mighty flood waters could have pushed these huge boulders down the creek many years ago.

The creek is known to be fast running and rather dangerous, so there are signs posted admonishing people to stay out of the water...which we repeated rather often to our offspring. Thankfully, we never needed these Emergency Use floaters.

We wrapped up our day with pizza at a local place where 'everyone goes.'

By evening we were dirty and tired, but in the good kind of way. I love home school days when dad gets to come along.

What kind of Ordinary Day did you have recently?
