i don't love to sew
but i do enjoy making
pillows and pillow covers
with which to decorate
my abode
whenever i find
a shirt
a sweater
anything with buttons
that i don't want to actually wear
i save it for my next pillow project
(funny how pieces of clothing i would never wear
can make great decorating pieces)
plus
it's fun to re-purpose stuff
plus
it's fun to re-purpose stuff
yesterday i hauled out my machine
to make two covers
here's what i started with
a too-big cardigan and old throw pillow
and a sal-val men's shirt and old pillow form
since i don't like to measure
unless i absolutely have to
i just laid the pillow forms on top of the garments
and cut around it
not very scientific
but it usually works for me
then i put the right sides of fabric together
usually pinning them around the edges
but
i...um
couldn't find my pins
so i held the fabric together
and sewed around the edges
leaving about 1/4 inch seam allowance
voila
and
to remove the covers
you just have to
unbutton them
the whole project
took about
20 minutes
short and sweet
(and totally free)
just the way i like it
