As promised, here are the before and after photes of my living room. Because this was the first room we painted, I was undecided about what to do with the trim....leave it or paint it. Of course, I wish I had painted it now, but that is just another project to add to the ever-growing list!
Here is the living room just after we moved in. You can see the dark burgandy walls. (My daughter celebrated her birthday as soon as we moved....poor girl. It was very makeshift!) The carpet was the same color as the walls and there were shutters covering the windows, shutting out every ray of light. We called it The Cave.

Here it is in the process of pulling up carpet....gross.
And some more. Here you can see the shutters before they were removed.
And now take a look at the room as it looks today (or at least how it looked last Wednesday when it was cleaned for company!) After removing the carpet we cleaned, sanded and then painted the wood floors. I could have refinished them but the last owner put new hardwood floors down over the originals in the dining room and hallway, so I wouldn't have been able to match them. Plus, I've always wanted a painted wood floor. I'm pretty happy with it, especially since it has worn away a bit. Tres shabby!
Sorry, the photo above is a bit dark. Here's a better one.
And one more.
The only piece in this room that was bought new is the sofa....though the current slipcover is from Ebay. The standing lamp was rescued from my neighbor's trash and it is gorgeous up close.  Most everything else was bought for peanuts at a tag sale or Craigslist. I also make a few of the pillows myself.
So that's as far as I've gotten in my house updating. Hopefully we'll start on the kids' rooms this summer. On the other hand, we have a lot of landscaping still left on the list. Maybe a little of both?
Have a great week all!
